Should you get a rental agent in Ecuador to help you find a place to live? It can be difficult to do everything by yourself in a foreign country with different laws and regulations, and even harder if you don’t speak the language fluently.
In Cuenca, we rented our house without a rental agent, but in Olón, we had help from a rental agent we trusted. And thanks to her, we knew that everything would be taken care of.
Amy Prisco with Ecuador Realty is a great resource in the Salinas area.
Ryan and Tiffany with Ecuador Shores Realty can help you in the Manta area.
If you know a rental agent you would recommend for Cuenca, please drop us a note through our Contact Form so we can check them out!
Ecuador Real Estate & Rental Agents
These are the real estate agents we recommend in Ecuador. Some only provide buyer/seller services while others will also help you find rental properties.
Rental agents will typically only help if you want a year lease or longer because their commission comes out of the first month's rent and most landlords won't pay the commission for short term leases.
You can offer to pay them a service fee to help you find a shorter term lease; however, we recommend using AirBnB.com to find short-term rentals. That's where most landlords list their rental properties in Ecuador. You can also check GringoPost.com for the Cuenca area, or OLX.com.ec for a Spanish version of CraigsList.
The best way to find rental properties and real estate in Ecuador is by word-of-mouth, and by walking or driving around so you may want to stay in a hotel or short-term stay place while you investigate a more permanent location to live.
