Swimming in Olón Ecuador is like swimming at most ocean beaches: it’s not easy. If you enjoy surfing, the beginner to intermediate ocean waves in Olón are perfect.
However, if your goal or preference is to swim laps, you won’t enjoy swimming at the beach in Olón very much. The waves are frequent and powerful so you’ll barely get in 5 strokes before the next wave tosses you like a ragdoll.
The currents are also very powerful, so you’ll often find yourself swimming in place without making any forward progress. Then, if you turn around, you’ll find yourself 200 or 300 feet down the beach in just a few strokes.
Rather than swimming laps, our preference is to play in the waves like a child. Diving over or under the waves and then paddling against them gets the heart rate up and it’s a lot of fun. It’s also good exercise to walk against the current in the waist to chest deep water. That’s a great core workout!
If you’re set on swimming laps for your daily exercise, we recommend staying in a hotel or condo building with a pool because you just won’t enjoy swimming laps at the beach in Olón.
